SNSD’s First Japanese Album certified “Million” by RIAJ

SNSD’s 1st Japanese Album named “Girls’ Generation” which was released on June 1st of 2011 has now been certified “Million” by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) for shipping out over 1 Million Copies.

This certification is based from the total of CDs and DVDs sold to retailers and “Million” stands for 1 Million units sold while “Triple Platinum” signifies 750,000 copies, “Double Platinum” for 500,000 copies, “Platinum” for 250,000 and “Gold” for 100,000 copies.

Prior to this, SNSD were also awarded the “Album of the Year” and “Best Album” at the 26th Japan Gold Disc Awards last January with their Japanese album “Girls’ Generation”.

Meanwhile, SNSD will release their Japanese single titled “Paparazzi” on June 27th.

About Girls’ Generation (SNSD)

Girls’ Generation (Sonyeo Shidae or So Nyuh Shi Dae) is a nine-member South Korean pop girl group formed by S.M. Entertainment in 2007.  They are also referred to as SoShi (소시) or SNSD by their fans, both abbreviated forms of the group’s Korean name.

The leader of the group is Kim Taeyeon. The other members are Jessica Jung, Sunny, Tiffany, Kim Hyoyeon, Kwon Yuri, Choi Sooyoung, Im Yoona and Seohyun.

 Subgroups

On April 19, SM Entertainment officially announced the creation of a Girls’ Generation subunit, Girls’ Generation–TaeTiSeo, composed of Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun. The subunit’s first mini-album “Twinkle” is expected to be released on May 2, 2012. According to the statement by SM Entertainment, “Girls’ Generation’s subunit will feature the various talents of each Girls’ Generation member by changing the members of the unit according to the music and concept of each new subunit album. This subunit will aim to grab the attention of fans with all aspects of music, performance, and fashion styles.”
